Location of Curdridge Parish Council Facilities
Following the installation of information boards at Botley Station and the cemetery car park a small grant was received from Winchester City Council to create a nature and history trail by installing information boards about local history, wildflowers and wildlife at the Council’s other properties. The Men’s Shed has expertly installed these boards at the Cricketers Pond, The Pound and the Allotment/recreation ground.
The Cricketers Pond board provides some background information and details on mallard ducks and moorhens which you can see whilst sitting on the bench. The pond is at the junction of the B3035 Botley Road and Calcot Lane.
The Pound board includes details of how it became Parish Council property in 1900 and confirmation that Winston Churchill and General Montgomery visited on 19 May 1944, when this part of the village was providing essential food rations during the crucial preparations for D Day. The Pound is at the triangular point of the junction between The Plantation and Botley Road.
The Allotment/recreation ground board outlines the origins of the Curdridge Allotment Charity and the journey to now. It also details with photos some of the trees and wildflowers that can be found there. It is found off the Botley Road between Reading Room Lane and the junction with the A334.
